Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has solicited the effective collaboration of the Nigeria Police Force towards addressing the security challenges facing Katsina State.
Radda spoke when he paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, at the Police Headquarters in Abuja, friday 29th September 2023.
Appreciating the effort of the Nigeria Police, especially the Katsina State Command, the Governor said his visit was to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the Katsina State Government and the Police, with a view to enhance the security of lives and property in the State.
Radda maintained that personnel of the Katsina Police Command have demonstrated commitments towards curtailing the menace of banditry and other criminalities facing the State, hence the need for his administration to provide them the necessary support and cooperation to achieve desired success.
Decrying the wanton attacks on communities by bandits, the Governor observed that 22 out of the Katsina 34 local governments are affected by insecurity one way or the other.
This, he said, is as a result of a forest with the length of over 800 kilometers bordering about eight local governments in the State.
"However, our administration has already recruited 1,500 youths, who are currently undergoing training on how to work with security personnel in the fight against insecurity in the State.
"As such, I will use this forum to invite you to the Passing Out Parade of the Community Watch Corp Officers, who are about completing their training. Indeed, your presence at the closing ceremony would boost the morale of the Corps members," said Governor Radda.
Responding, Egbetokun, expressed gratitude to the Governor and assured that his visit will serve as a morale booster to the Nigeria Police, in its commitment towards securing lives and property of citizenry.
He lauded the effort of Malam Dikko Radda towards addressing the security challenges in Katsina.
The Police Chief assured that Katsina State will be among the six States to benefit from a special intervention for security agencies, by the Presidency.
"We shall also provide more security vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and combat gadgets to officers and men of the Katsina State Police Command," Egbetokun promised.
